How much does a hearing test cost in Melbourne?
Pensioners and eligible Department of Veterans' Affairs clients receive fully funded hearing services. Bulk billing is also available for eligible patients with a GP referral. Call 03 7042 9301 and we will confirm what you are entitled to before you book.
Do I need a GP referral to see an audiologist?
No referral is needed to book a hearing test or ear wax microsuction. However GP referrals may be eligible for a small medicare rebate on certain tests. Often the rebate is not worth going through the hassle of and paying for the GP visit to obtain a referral.
Is ear wax microsuction painful?
Microsuction is not painful. Most patients describe it as a gentle vacuuming sensation with some high-pitched noise from the suction. No water or syringing is used, so it is safe for patients with perforated eardrums or grommets. Most blockages are cleared in a single appointment.
How long does a hearing appointment take?
A full diagnostic hearing assessment takes about 45 to 60 minutes and includes otoscopy, a pure tone audiogram, tympanometry and speech testing. Ear wax microsuction usually takes 20 to 30 minutes. You receive your results and a plan in the same appointment.
Which hearing aids do you fit?
We fit devices from all major hearing aid manufacturers. We do not fit white-labeled hearing aids sold by big retailers which make it difficult to compare technology, price and features. Our recommendations are based on your hearing loss, listening needs and budget rather than one brand or manufacturer.
